"Explore ways of encouraging growth within an inclusive society, facilitating intra-regional disparities between communities in terms of the access to employment and working towards work-life balance and quality of life"
The aim:
One of the most fulsome challenges faced by most European Regions is achieving growth and raising employment within an inclusive society. Much of the growth that has taken place is concentrated in areas with fairly distinct boundaries and is leading to increasing intra-regional disparities between communities in terms of the quality of life and access to employment. The development of sustainable communities is characterised by:
- full employment and an inclusive labour market
- a high and rising quality of life
- a cohesive and tolerant society
- a variety of local opportunities for work and play (leisure and culture)
- local distinctiveness and a high quality of environment
The aim of this theme is to support projects increasing employability and the integration of disadvantaged groups into wider society, reducing gender inequality, intra-regional disparities and the development of local community leadership in both rural and urban areas. One of the other negative consequences of high growth regions is that in prosperous parts of the region, there is increasing pressure on the transportation infrastructure and shortage of certain types of workers. This theme will look at developing and adopting models of best practice in human resource management, with a view to relieving the pressures created by employment in congested areas-particularly in terms of commuting with home working, remote working or shared-spaces in communities.
